In this paper the hypothesis of the research is that the Catalan soap
operas are popular cultural productions that represent demographic behaviors.
The producers and scriptwriters draw examples from real life to produce them
and select emergent demographic and cultural behaviors. By normalizing and
democratizing certain attitudes and values, they create social common
referents, as for example, the Catalan identity that is always present in this kind
of productions. We also ask if the new forms of broadcast through new diffusion
channels of this serials influences the conception of its contents

Hittite laws at 2nd millennium BC were more innovative than their contemporary ones. They overcame: the eye for an eye rule, corporal punishments and death sentences; the central idea is now the compensation, and in the most of cases, they were replaced by fines or payments in kind. The women’s legal status was more advanced too, overcoming their consideration as mere objects, usual in other legal codes. Nevertheless, and because it was a patriarchal society, the inequality and discrimination of women are present in legal articles. They appear especially in questions as: the male property of women bodies in the institution of marriage, the divorce or maternity and sex. Female adultery was one of the cases punished with death penalty
Mujeres en la arena. : Participación femenina en los ludi circenses
The evolution of the feminine participation in "ludi" (games) and other circus shows in ancient Rome is analized, discussing women different areas of action and their impact in society. Whereas the reputation and fascination for gladiators has come up to us and has originated different and popular audio-visual products, the fact that there also were gladiator women is unknown. Women intervention in circus and amphitheatre shows was diverse: these women were sponsors of the games, owners of fighters, actresses or musicians performing in shows, or prostitutes to the service of participants or assistants, or fans of gladiator
The results situated Catalonia in a more modern position than Andalusia, within in the labour context that is the main focus of this analysis. Although it must be emphasised the constant change that is taking place in Andalusia towards modernity. The main ideas that central in the whole study are: on the one hand, that a more modern society implies a more equalitarian relation among its members, and on the other hand, that the process of modernity is followed by an increasing process of individualization, meaning that all those categories that were useful in pre-modern societies to position socially its individuals became useless in modern societ
Biometric presentation attack detection: beyond the visible spectrum
The increased need for unattended authentication in
multiple scenarios has motivated a wide deployment of biometric
systems in the last few years. This has in turn led to the
disclosure of security concerns specifically related to biometric
systems. Among them, presentation attacks (PAs, i.e., attempts
to log into the system with a fake biometric characteristic or
presentation attack instrument) pose a severe threat to the
security of the system: any person could eventually fabricate
or order a gummy finger or face mask to impersonate someone
else. In this context, we present a novel fingerprint presentation
attack detection (PAD) scheme based on i) a new capture device
able to acquire images within the short wave infrared (SWIR)
spectrum, and i i) an in-depth analysis of several state-of-theart
techniques based on both handcrafted and deep learning
features. The approach is evaluated on a database comprising
over 4700 samples, stemming from 562 different subjects and
35 different presentation attack instrument (PAI) species. The
results show the soundness of the proposed approach with a
detection equal error rate (D-EER) as low as 1.35% even in a
realistic scenario where five different PAI species are considered
only for testing purposes (i.e., unknown attacks
Welfare Policies and Solidarity Toward the Elderly
In this paper we analyze the effect of welfare policies oriented toward the elderly on solidarity toward the elderly in a sample of European countries. The research question is whether more generous welfare policies crowd out solidarity. For this purpose, we analyze four waves of the SHARE database. We use multilevel analysis to estimate the effect of national variables on transfers toward the elderly, controlling for individual level variables. At the national level we focus on the effect of public spending on policies oriented toward the elderly after controlling for some other relevant variables, such as the proportion of elderly people, female labor force participation and unemployment. Our results indicate that expenditure in social protection toward the elderly has a positive and significant (albeit moderate) effect on the economic support received by the elderly (which is in line with the Crowding-in hypothesis). However, in the case of time transfers, we find that expenditure in social protection toward the elderly has a negative and significant impact on the time transfers received by the elderly (which is consistent with the Crowding-out hypothesis).Universidad de Málaga.
